Why I would like to serve:
I bring significant financial expertise to the Board and enjoy contributing to the community. Also, I plan to assist in further asset improvements.

Related Experience:
B.S. Computer Science with minor in Electronic Engineering Technology Texas A&M Universty. While employed at a small oilfield service company - Numar - I helped establish field offices in Venezuela, Australia, and Indonesia with budget constraints. I have been a homeowner for 30 years. 18 of those years I have been a homeowner in Village Place.

Why I would like to serve:
I would like to know and understand what my home owners association is doing. When I know what is happening, I would gladly share what information I have with other association members.

Goals for the Association:
My goal would be to make the Village Place Community Association a value instead of a burden. Mentioning Village Place Community Association to Harris County Appraisal District this year resulted in lowering my home value by 14%. This has to change. The goal of any HOA should be to increase home value.

Richard Vetter (Incumbent)
Related Experience and Why I would like to serve:
I am an attorney, licensed in Illinois. My practice involved real estate, banking and finance, corporate law, and oil and gas. Eleven years ago, my wife and three daughters and I moved to Houston and to Village Place. Previously I served as a member of our neighborhood board in Oak Brook, Illinois. I successfully used my legal skills to prevent the construction of what would have been a large, cheaply built apartment complex on neighboring land. (We had zoning.) Here, we have been happy in this great neighborhood and I have enjoyed serving on the Village Place board for a few years. I first began at the invitation of several board members to fill in for a member of the board who was leaving before the end of his elected term. Later, I was elected. The composition of the Board has changed over the years. I have good connections with retired Board members who have very good and useful historical information about our neighborhood, which can help us avoid mistakes and pitfalls as we go forward. Happily, I have also experienced the varied talents of the newer group of people on the Board and I find them to be concerned, talented and responsible people with whom I have a good working relationship. As a member of the board, I can provide continuity and I have learned a great deal about the concerns of our neighbors, the management and communication styles that are most effective. Recently I was privileged to head the search for our new management company and had the dedicated assistance of qualified professionals in our neighborhood who spent hours evaluating our options before choosing our present company.

Goals for the Association:
a. A priority is the maintenance of security. I think that the Constables and our alert neighbors are doing a good job, but we should not become complacent.
b. Fiscal responsibility is, of course, very important and I would like to continue to further the policies of transparency and improvement of communications with residents via improved Village Place websites and Management Company systems.
c. At the same time, we need to maintain the value of our property and the attractiveness of our neighborhood and its amenities. We need to further develop and complete programs for improving the tennis courts and the areas around the Clubhouse. And we need to develop and implement plans with the City of Houston and adjacent neighbors to maintain Village Place entrances and adjacent esplanades.
d. Civility and good communication must overlay everything we do as neighbors. I think we should explore and plan more community social activities so that our own residents enjoy our improved facilities together.
It is my opinion that we really all want the same things – safety, responsible stewardship while maintaining attractive amenities, and good relations with our neighbors.
